As a child I loved hearing the stories my mom used to tell me about
growing up on the farm. One such story was about blankets. El campo is
hot during the day but it cools off quickly at night, and there is also a
winter on this tropical island. The only thing my grandparents’ family
had in excess was blankets. Once in a while, my grandfather would go
into town to get salt and other supplies that couldn’t be found in the
country. In addition to the items on his list, he always came home with
blankets. My grandmother would roll her eyes and say, “We should open a
blanket store.”
