Yes, Martí wrote about the miserable conditions and the injustice he saw, but Martí wrote about many things. One minute he described the plight of the factory immigrants in New York City and the next minute he wrote about the marvels of Coney Island and ecstasy he felt when visiting there. His poetry reflected what he felt at any particular moment, and some of the happiest times in Martí’s life, as recorded in his writings, were spent in the United States. He was critical of the U.S., but he did not hate it.
