Martí’s love for children is also reflected in his poetry; he never would
have imposed the evils of communism on Cuban children. Any writer’s words can
be twisted and misconstrued, but read Martí’s poetry and tell me he was a
communist. Read his writings when Spaniards incarcerated him bound with
shackles and tell me that he would approve of the horrors Fidel have imposed on
political prisoners.
